pure-gas.org lists a whole bunch of Casey's stations on the Kansas side, look em up and see if one near you.

I saw another post on catch cans. I have a catch can on my Camaro but not on my Tahoe.

I have this same issue. I'm following this to see if someone had a solution. I wondered if a catch can might help. I have no idea if it will or not, that's just a question.

catch cans are very effective in reducing valve deposits in the newer DI engines. There is also lots of info on how crankcase ventilation systems fail to control loss of oil when vehicles are driven spiritedly. PCV blow by is certainly considered HC and could be the source of the stain.

I run Mobil 1 oil in all of my vehicles which has a extremely high flash point as compared to conventional oil. However nothings going to get by the cat converter.

I have done a lot of thinking on this throughout the day. I honestly can't see how fuel with 10% ethanol would cause this type of a problem. My findings have found that more than 95% of all fuel in the US has at least 10% ethanol in it. Is means the auto manufacturers know this and take measures in design and engineering to prevent any problems this may cause.

This also holds true for the aftermarket companies who sell and distribute parts we buy to put on these vehicles, all make necessary changes in procedures and processes to assure the public gets a product that will work with the fuel that's available at the current time.

I can promise you that not everyone with a BBP tune is out searching for that one out of a hundred pump that has "pure non ethanol fuel". Out of the thousands of tunes BBP has sold I find it hard to believe that we now have to run non ethanol fuel. Now if we are talking about the E85 Flex Fuel, that is another can of worms that I will not get into here. Other than to say that the statements above about "pure fuel" would be true in that instance.

To make my long story short BlackBear Performance knows that most of the fuel in this North America has at least 10% ethanol no matter what octane grade you choose to run. There programming and services I'm quite sure take this matter into account when they are working their magic.

When someone throws out the term "bad gas" it doesn't mean it has ethanol. It could be a contaminated mix from the refinery. Maybe they got the 91 mixed up with the 87. Water could have seeped into the tank during transport. BUT IT DOES NOT mean it has ethanol in it.

My resonator delete was installed in April of last. I'm sorry I thought I got it after my tune which was in June. Anyway the soot issue didn't surface until about the first part for Dec. That's way I thought it was winter gas that we have here in the Kansas City area.

Update:
Justin has looked at the data log file and has determined that there is definitely some pinging/detonation going on, but no rich or lean condition. He suggested I run a few tanks of 91 through it and see what happens. He is also working on a 91 tune for me so that should hopefully solve the problem.

Ok, so I now have the 91 octane tune. And I'm about half way through my second tank of 91. And no signs of "soot" on the body panel. I did my data logging this morning and sent it to Justin. Got an email back saying everything looks good. It really likes the 91 octane.

Thanks to Justin at BBP for helping me figure things out.

Just to add - I have the same tip/ tune from MJ / and running 89 octane. Never had a soot problem other than a little on the bottom inner rim of the pipe.
