I have had my new to me 2008 Tahoe for about 3 months and it runs great! When I got it I was told it had a small transmission cooler line leak, so I had a good friend of mine fix the line, well the hose wasn't installed tight and going down the freeway the line broke loose and I lost about 80% of the fluid, I saw the rpms shoot up and I pulled over and had to get a tow, he then replaced the entire line, which he should have done in the first place, and refilled all the fluid, but ever since then my transmission is so messed up!!!! Once I hit 30 miles an hr the rpms go to 6-7k and I can't get out of 3rd gear, I am beyond frustrated!! There was nothing wrong with this transmission before, does this mean I need a new transmission?!?

Sounds like someone owes you a transmission.
6-7k? they have a rev limiter, can't go that high. 5800? somewhere real close to that.

I don't know if it's exactly 6-7 but once it hits 28-30mph the rpms shoot up and I am barely touching the gas. SERIOUSLY!?! A small mistake just ruined my transmission!! Now I'm afraid this truck will never run right! I hate doing business with friends

Hello Nikki'sHoe08,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue with your vehicle. I understand that you are looking for technical advice regarding this issue. I might not be able to give you any technical advice but if you find that you may need to have your vehicle looked at by a dealership, I would be happy to make this process as easy as possible. Please private message me referencing this thread if I can be of any assistance.

Take it to a trans shop and have them check it out.

I have had a trans line blow in the past my self. One time it killed my trans. The other time I got it shut down faster and only lost about half my fluid, and that one lived after fixing the line and filling it back up.

80% of the fluid dumped out........ I'm going to say you lost pressure on the clutch pack and likely burned one of the clutches out of it.
