Solid Front End Axle

I am thinking of putting a solid front axle on my 98 4x4 Tahoe. I seen it on extreme 4x4 and was wondering if anyone has done it before. I would like to put coil overs with a 4 link instead of leaf springs. What y'all think? Waste of time?

Definitely a worth while mod especially if you wheel!! Don't expect it to be as easy as seen on tv, though. Do you go wheeling a lot in your Hoe?

i did a s.a.f swap on a 91 toyota four runner and it was actually a piece of cake... measure! measure! measure! mine was pretty awesome ill will see if i can get some pictures up for ya... once all the ifs is out of the way and you cut out the old a arm brackets and what not its a blank canvas waiting for some 40's and articulation... good luck man!!!!! oh yeah go with a dana 44 and 8lug outers with a corp 14bolt with full floating axles and cross over steering man it will work wonders for you a good website is www.offroaddesign.com all you will need is on there! its for older chevys but with the parts you will be using this is the place you need to go!!!! good luck man!!

I know TV makes it look easy lol. I have a jeep that I go wheeling in but I would like to take her off road when I have more people with me. I usual use my Tahoe as a toe rig but if my jeep brakes down on the trail I can use her to go get my jeep. The biggest reason to put a a axle in the front would be for maintenance. Replaceing parts on the front end adds up quick.

Buy a dial indicator, angles need to checked and re-checked. It's gonna be a lot of work, but if you make it a project and you don't need it done right away, have at it.

I will. Right now im looking at a few front ends. A dana 44, a ford 1 ton, and a few others. How well is the rear axles on the Tahoes? I know jeeps, dont know too much about chevys. Its not going to be a hard core off roader but at the same time I dont want to put some mall crawler axles in there eather.

8 lug full floater rear end out of a 1 ton should work just fine for you.
