i have a 2011 Tahoe. Sometimes when starting the engine, a get a ticking sound. Sometimes it starts right up, sometimes it won"t start until after a few ticking sounds and sometimes it won"t start without a jump. I tested the battery and alternator and their good. Could the starter be on it's last days?

Sounds more like the battery and/or connections at the battery and starter. When you say the battery and alternator tested good, how did you test and did you first inspect for tight clean connections? What are the test results that you got? So many times members say something tested good and then we find out it did not really test good but the ember THOUGHT it did.

If it always starts with a jump, that seems to me to rule out the starter.

Remove your battery cables and completely clean and inspect them, they get funky on the inside under the plastic.

Sometimes the extra amp capacity helps a dying starter along.
Hard to say without actually hearing it. Wonder if the starter is hanging.
