Okay so I jumped a curb to avoid getting rear ended and my 06 Yukon Xl took matters into its own hands..... Threw its self into low 4 and has been stuck for months. I scanned it and got this " encoder ring position invalid" wtf!!!!!! How do I re position the encoder ring? Also none of my selection buttons work. Id gladly drive to the dealer at 2 mp but my husband has cancer and we are flat broke because of it. I am an engine mechanic and have spent most of my adult life working in shops. An injury took that away from me so I'm on my own with this. I never got into 4x4 systems other than basic service. I would be ever so greatful if someone could please point me in the right direction I really need my truck back!

I would first try to pull the shift motor off and see if you can get it out of 4lo. It must have been a big curb! stranger things have happened, but the jolt from the curb could have messed up something inside the TC. Pull it and see if you can shift it manually.

How do I shift it manually all I have are stupid buttons that don't stay lit up:/ I have tried all the fuse disconnects pigtails fluid flush I can hear it in the rear transfer case not the front. I put the truck up on jack stands to see if all 4 wheels are spinning and they wer until I shifted the trans with the scanner. Still tells me it can't communicate with the encoder ring. I guess it's time to take shit apart. Oh it was a huge curb about 2 feet drop at 40 mp. I had no choice my 16 month old and my husband wer in the car neither one of them is in any condition for whiplash. My husband is on chemo therapy so his comfort is everything rite now.

unknown at this time.
you remove the shift motor and use a tool of some sort to move the shift mechanism on the tcase. there are two different ones used tho. what year of vehicle? and do you see auto4wd or neutral stamped on the buttons? look on the left side of tcase on front half and check for damaged wiring to the shift motor.
