Curious for those of you with spare tire storage inside. I took my spare out of my 2 door the other day and there was a bunch of what looked like double back tape on the rack ( first pic ) that got all over everything. It was a huge mess on the carpet and I just finished cleaning it. Is this like this from factory maybe with foam over it to keep the tire & wheel from rubbing.

I just did the exact same thing on my 97 Yukon GT. That was original black rubber from the factory, that kept the spare tire from rubbing on the bracket. After 20 years in the heat it turned into tar. I cleaned it all off with a plastic scraper and isopropyl alcohol. I am going to tie wrap some grey foam pipe insulation on the bracket when I re-install.

That's what I thought that tar is nasty. Thanks for the reply!

Finally put my spare tire assembly back together. I put some foam pipe insulation, where the black rubber/tar used to live.
