I searched back a little ways and didn't find anything in this forum so thought I would ask. I am changing the plugs and wires on my 2000 Tahoe with 145k miles. They were changed at about 100k but that was 10 years ago so I figure it can't hurt. Anyways, from searching other places, I see a lot of people recommending the Delco Iridium plugs but am still confused if the gap should be .040 or .060. And should you use anti-seize or not? I have seen arguments for both ways. Any wire recommendations?

41-110 AC Delco already come pre-gapped @ .040. Carefully verify the gap but do not set it or the tip can break off. Always use anti-seize compound on the threads and dielectric grease on the wires. Originally, the gap was .060 and GM changed it and the design of the plugs.

Hmm, I'd be more concerned with the wires since it's been so long. But I've got a Pontiac 14 years old and it has never had plugs or wires and runs just fine. Pull a plug and have a look. If the motor is humming along good and getting the gas mileage it is supposed to, spend your money elsewhere.
Well, as far as gas mileage goes, I have been keep track of it forever when I fill up and average about 12. I just got back from a trip pulling a boat and got 13, so that is probably where it should be, right? The only problem is occasionally the idle will shoot up to about 1100-1200 but then will go back to normal when i turn it off and back on again. I read that I should start by cleaning the throttle body and MAF sensor to start with as those have probably never been cleaned. Maybe I will start there and then check the plugs.

Mileage is about right, it's consistent. The MAP and MAF and TB can all be cuplrits in an idle problem. It's good to start there.

you need to be checking owner manual and shop manual for manufacturer-specific part numbers and procedures.

I did see that the manual calls for .060, but I was asking because of the iridium plugs. I have read where they should be left at .040 but also saw some people say .060 so I wanted to clear that up.
It only seems to happen when I am in stop and go traffic on the freeway. If I just drive normally, even while stopping at lights, I can get to where I am going even if it is a couple hours or so with a normal idle. If I am in stop and go traffic on the freeway though, it will eventually kick up to 1100 and stay that way until I shut it off. I have never taken the TB out so I will do a little more research and watch some more videos before attempting that.
