Spark plug wire shield

Has anybody removed the shields at the end of the spark plug wire. What are they for. I'm talking about the thin metal shield that goes around the boot at the spark plug end

Heat shield. Why would you want to remove them. If they didn't matter GM wouldn't have spent money to put them on

I left them in but I've seen other Tahoe's without them so I thought I would ask

I was actually told by Techline (by 2 different guys) to remove them. That they can trap moisture and cause a misfire. Did as instructed but have no idea how long the vehicles went before needing wires.

That was in 2003 and they're still putting them on.....

Yeah I don't know I just wanted to ask. Before m current Tahoe I had a 2000 limited and it didn't have them. When I changed plugs and wires the other day I did notice there was some rust inside of them. Not enough to be alarmed but noticeable
