Recently been experiencing problems starting my truck. I go to start the car turn the key all the way, nothing happens. The a/c radio and other electronics turn on. While turning the key there is no "clicking" noise, it's dead silent. I continue turning the key a few more times, and finally gives in to starting. What's starting to happen now is that when I'm able to start the engine, it dies immediately. I'll immediately turn the key again it'll fire up and this time I'll feed it a little gas and it's the only way to keep the engine going. Been thinking the solenoid but why would the engine die immediately? The battery sits at 12.8v. I have no trouble or lag when it turns over.

Sounds like a wiring issue between your ignition and the starter. What year is your truck? I'd take it to a shop and have them hook up a multimeter to your ignition wiring and see if the starter is getting consistent input from the ignition when the key is turned.

If that's not it, might be your starter taking a dump.

The truck is a 2008. I have a 6month old d3100 xs battery... I re-soldered the connections to the battery. I think I figured out a small clue but I haven't really tested it. If I push the key all the into the ignition and turn I don't have any problems.

Yeah, sounds like something in your ignition is wearing out. How many miles on the truck?

Your starter is about to die, which is something you can't recharge or jump off so I'd get that swapped before you get stranded (which will be in the very near future!)

It is most likey the negative battery cable that is bad. Check the cable and make sure it is seated all the way down on the battery. There was a big TSB on the 07-08 models.
