it might need to be relubbed back up. its super easy, all you need is a 15mm wrench.

Just replaced the shaft last night for the same exact reasons and so far it seems to have fixed the problem. The new shaft was redesigned to fix the problem supposedly. Think the shaft was like $40 something through rock auto.
