Does the steering wheel vibrate or is the steering sloppy? If you have aftermarket wheels, you may need a steering stabilizer to help absorb the sway that you naturally get with larger wheels/tires. If you feel a rattle/vibration in the steering wheel, it is common. The grease settled down to the bottom of the intermediate steering shaft. Not something that is un-safe, just strange to experience. Do a search and you'll see a couple of methods people use to cure that.

I think his describing the infamous "Intermediate Shaft Clunk".
Do you hear a clunking sound or feel something like a dislocated bone?

Life one side of the truck up. Yank the tire back and forth if you can move it you got worn parts. If not look at the intermediate steering shaft. Mine needs replacing and i have it just havent doen it yet.

I wonder if the 4x4 has something to do with that?
