I hear a whistle like sound (like something rubbing) when i am turning on my 07 Tahoe. Is really annoying and it seems like is coming from where the steering wheel is connected. It usually happens when i am traveling slow (like in a parking lot) and it happens when the truck warms up. If anybody knows what causes this noise, please let me know. Thank you.

Rulis,

It may be an issue with the steering column. This is just a suggestion, not a diagnosis. Does the noise only occur at slower speeds?

Yes it only happens when turning in low speeds. I also have an 04 impala and does the same thing but it is a bit louder. When i started noticing the noise on my impala it was quite and only happened occasionally and also in low speeds. Overtime it got louder (not extremely but more noticeable and you cant hear it with your windows down or with music on) and more frequent to everyday occurring. I am thinking is the same problem an overtime is going to a bit louder and more frequent.

If it is a column problem will it be expensive to fix?

I am thinking it is a column problem because i googled it and many other forums who experienced the same problem said it was something to do with the steering column.

ps Thank you all for your feedback and welcome.

I've got the same issue here.

Sounds like it's right in the dash area, not behind the firewall (although I can't be sure). Kind of a rubbing/whirring noise...
