So usually about a min after starting my truck I can hear one of my exhaust valves sticking. I can only hear it through my exhaust, no tapping under the hood. I can also hear it when I'm accelerating at around 1/3 throttle. I have a buddy that told me that the lifter builds up pressure after about a minute and that is what is causing the valve to stay open. Does this sound right? Does anyone think that sea-foaming the oil could fix this problem? Any other ideas of what it could be?

2000 with the 5.7. idk if it has a roller cam or if anyone installed one before I bought the truck. would it having a roller cam mean I have a different problem?

Check and make sure you don't have a small exhaust leak. Common places for leaks are around the manifold gasket or collector gasket but it could even be a pinhole in the exhaust pipe somewhere.

You'd be surprised at how many people mistake a small exhaust leak for a collapsed/sticky lifter... Really.

my bad, thinking ticking lifter, any codes?
The service engine soon light has come on in the past but it went off before I could check it. Would it still have the code in it?

Unfortunately I already did. At idle I can hold a piece of paper to the tail pipe and it will suck the paper up to it for a split second.

I'll try to post a vid of the sound if my camera can pick it up.

---------- Post added at 02:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:37 PM ----------

I take that back.. the service light went back on when I was making the vid.
The codes are: P0300 Random cylinder misfire
and P0300 (pd) Random/multiple cylinder misfire
Here are the vids:

Yeah, not a hole in your pipe if it is sucking. I'd go with a ton of seafoam to start with, just to see if you can break the bastard free, and clean out the topside. Can't hurt anything. After that, do a good tune up, changing the plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor. See if you can get the random misfore to go away. I don't think it's necessarily related though. Sucks, man.
:drunk:

Edit- emphasis on putting the seafoam directly into the valve covers via the oil filler hole, and the PCV hole. Too easy. Just follow the directions on the can for how many cans per quart of oil, etc. Go heavy with the stuff. :)

Yeah I'm thinking the misfire is from a bad fpr, its been starting like its flooded. But I will definitively get the rest of my seafoam in the oil. Any suggestions on what oil I should go with, mobile 1 synthetic, royal purple... etc? when I change it

Bummer it couldn't just be an exhaust leak! Try Seafoaming it hardcore like ravingmadman recommended and run that in the oil for awhile. Then with your next oil change substitute a quart of oil for a quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer.

My Mustang's 351 Windsor has a collapsed lifter that I've been procrastinating to replace... It's quite loud when I just use oil, even 20w-50, but when I substitute one quart of oil for a quart of Lucas the problem is decreased tremendously!

Also, I have a good friend that used to crew for Bill Elliot's NASCAR team and has crewed sprint car teams for years... His knowledge is incredible... Anyway, he swears by Mobil 1 full synthetic...
