I have one of those "old school" K+N filters with an extreme flow top, sucking in warm air. In the summer if I ran a 195 the underhood temps when not moving would be a lil higher then I would like to be sucking in. :D

As soon as I get my other stuff done, I am going to test and data log the difference between stock 195 and a 180 thermostat.

I will be doing it towing a boat (5000 lbs) in the summer with 110 F ambient temps. I am hoping for less KR and or more timing to make more power with the 180 stat.

For just cruising I guess I would just have to compare fuel trims?

What is KR?

Sorry, Knock Retard.....the amount of timing the PCM pulls back from where it is supposed to be, because the knock sensor is detecting knock.

The hotter the engine ECT, the more load, hotter intake air temp IAT, leaner the mixture AFR, the better chance you could have knock, which the PCM will try to stop by pulling timing = less power.

I data log my truck regularly and I almost never detect knock after start up ... doesn't seem to matter if I have a 195 or 180 thermo in there ... maybe my knock sensor is bad?! LOL
