Thanks for helping out.

I have a 2005 Tahoe that is making a slight grinding or scraping noise intermittently while braking at slow speeds and only during the last second or two before the vehicle actually stops. I also can feel a bit of a flutter or shudder in the brake pedal with the noise, and it all stops if I let off the pedal so it appears to definitely be in the brake system not a wheel bearing. I just replaced all the brake pads & rotors but it still does it, so it must be something else. Also, the brake fluid reservoir is full.

Any suggestions?

Air in the line ?
Bad calipers ?
ABS engaging ?

Thanks again

Maybe check for something stuck on rotor, pads or caliper. If pads just replaced, maybe some debris got stuck to something. Possible bent shield, or caliper hardware. Check for any wires and such that may have gotten moved. If you have for sure narrowed it down to only happening while brakes are engaged, good chance it's in there somewhere, just what.

May be a good time to tear each one apart, pull the calipers, clean, regrease all slides and hardware, and think about flushing fluid. All that never hurts anyways. And give you a chance to look for the problem.

I have a 2003 GMC Yukon with the same exact issue. I had new rear brake pads installed and that same noise you wrote about occurs for me. They've taken the brakes apart twice now, see nothing abnormal, no debris, etc. They said that they installed ceramic brake pads because they are quieter (really?? never had that sound ever before) and said the brakes needed to be broken in hard, as in braking hard after driving fast. I drive mountain roads, so there's no driving fast... The mechanic said he'd take the car to do that for me. A new problem arose - a high pitched squeaking noise that just didn't sound like the brakes. I stayed on the mechanic...again, they checked the brakes, nothing, but found a leak in the rear axle differential seal - leaking a slight amount of oil onto the emergency brake pad, which caused it to "go shiny" (like a mirror) and is now making this horrendous sound. It's being fixed tomorrow at the shop, but why would oil on an emergency brake pad be squeaking like that?? It sounds to me like something is scraping/not releasing from when the parking brake is set then released. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

I have had success now fixing the scraping sound. Mechanic took apart the rear axles which had bad wear pattern/grooves and bad bearings (had a slow leak in the differential), AND the parking brake pads were worn VERY unevenly, so replaced the two rear axles, bearings & the whole shebang, replaced both of the parking brake pads, (and after the two tries at looking at the new ceramic brakes (rear)-there was nothing amiss there...). Then a high pitched squealing sound started after the whole job was done. Two weeks prior, I had replaced the transfer case seal and it was squeaking with every rotation of the drive shaft. Mechanic oiled that and now it's fine. Last thing I have to do is replace the self-leveling air/pump which went out after a rear shock had leaked so much causing it to run constantly and burned out the motor. Looking forward to towing my trailer soon -- finally. :)

I believe I found the issue causing the grinding / scraping noise while braking and I have to take back what I originally said. It appears that it was in fact a wheel bearing going bad. I replaced the front wheel hub this past Friday and it hasn't made the noise since. I'm hoping that was it. Thanks for the suggestions.

Can you confirm this ended up being the problem? Having the exact same problem with mine. Had the brakes checked twice. "Nothing wrong".
