Hi guys,

replacing my rotors and pads on my 06 new to me denali XL. started with my rear rotors and pads today then went to the front.

the PO must have stripped the lower t55 torx bolt on the driver side front caliper.

i am rebuilding/regreasing the pins and putting new metal springy things in and i need to get this bolt out.

its completely stripped.

i have tried a mini sledge and a chisel to make a notch then tried pouding it out that way after heat and pb blaster soak. no dice.

any other suggestions? ideally i'd like to remove this t55 then put a new bolt in place. i'm trying to save money and DIY this and i really don't want to buy a new caliper because that would mean dc'ing the break hose which i think means a bleed which i really don't want to do.

cheers for the help and suggestions.

Dremel... Cut the edges to about the size/shape of a 8/10mm socket. Take a hammer and get the socket over the bolt. Back it out... It takes some patience but I've helped remove many stripped torx this way....

thnx for the reply.

I ended up looking on kijiji and had a mobile welder come weld a nut on. back it out but holy crap it was in there. no wonder the PO couldn't get it out.

fronts replaced and rears replaced both pads/rotors/ pinboots and all lubed up and rust removed. brakes like butter and no more car shake on high speed braking.

FYI if anybody reads this in the future. if you are like me and havn't done this before, here is a videos on how to get the boots out and put them back in. i wish i didn't take mine off. if the boot is still good do not take it out. just clean out the pin sleeve with brake cleaner, then re lube the pin and push it in and out a bunch of times.

i tried the silver anti seize but it didn't work very well. seemed to gum up. so instead bought the 99 cent packets of brake and caliper lube/antiseize that goes on clear then turns black. much better. pin sliders smooth like butter.

video: (skip to 2:30), and fyi, i didn't have a vice, i was able to gently tap the bushing in with a 21mm socket. just be careful to lube the boot so it slides into teh socket and doesnt get pinched. watch his video, it will save you some pain.
