So my 99 tahoe has an engine with maybe 40k miles on it. I remember this being an issue last year. It's warming up here in central VA and the hoe is reacting. It likes to putter along at low RPM's. Unless I get on it, it really is choppy and acts like its being suffocated. It has a CAI and high flow MAF. Any help!

the regular oem maf is more then good enough. the high flows may sometime alter the data output based on design. put the original back in and run a test of you fuel pressures. also ensure no leak thru in the induction system piping.

But do you think this would all of the sudden cause an issue? I've had it on there for over 2 years, and its been perfect.

Get some live data that tells you things like the airflow and sorts then get a fuel pressure tester on it as well at the same time. I don't doubt and after market maf could fail after 2 years at all. bad fuel pressure would starve you when on it a bad maf, map could make thing difficult when just idling or under light power but gets worse with more power as well. Iac is something else to test. Is the filter clogged at all?Do you get not codes at all about any like bad sensor data or misfiring because of possible loos or corroded terminals in the ignition system.

So i put my home scanner on it, and it came up with 2 codes.
P0101- Mass or Volume Air Flow A Circuit Low Input.
P0442- Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected(Small)

Whatcha got on this?

If no damage to connector parts on maf wiring on maf side to pcm sie then get a delphi maf back in here. Is your original around. How about cleaning the either of them and trying again after codes are clear.

P0101 the maf is not outputting the predicted frequencies based on data from other sensors.

This is why you does you high flows. The oem can handle more then you think a high flow does.

p0442 Start with making sure gas cap i on correctly and secure. Look under the hood for broken or leaking vapor lines. The pcm put a vacuum in the evap system but it did not hold it for the few seconds that was expected.

Start with that and we will go from there.

Curious tho, you had a the warning light up first correct? or was it burned out when you pulled the codes?

No Check Engine light ever came on. And how do I check vapor lines? Where do they run?

What did you mean by this^?

Ill prob have to wait around a month to pay for that $100 OEM MAF.

you are looking at all the plastic or rubber vapor lines that run all over the engine bay for tears, cracks, and breaks etc. There light be a simple chart on your cooling fan shroud that point them out.

The system used the vacuum from the intake to create a vacuum in the evap line system. It then isolated the system and a sensor in the system noticed it did not maintain the vacuum level it was suppose to before working normally again.

I'll check those lines later at home. Does this sound like it will fix the shuttering issue?
