Subwoofer in 2010 Suburban LS

Hello all,

First post here. I'm looking to add some low end extension to my non-Bose factory radio in a 2010 Suburban LS 9-seater. Front bench seat, middle bench seat -- no center console. I already replaced the blown-out rear door speakers with Kickers (CSC line). I don't need massive bass. I simply want some low end extension so I can hear, for example, the double bass playing when I listen to jazz. I listen to rock, jazz, and classical.

Here's the limitation. We have a big family and when we go on road trips, every seat is full and the back is full too. Not much room for a subwoofer enclosure.

• Could I get some adequate low end extension from an 8" or 10" underseat powered subwoofer, like the ones from Rockville? They're typically about 3" tall. Examples:

• Location: Is there room under the second row bench seat for one of these? I can't find measurements anywhere and its a bit tricky to map out the space myself.
• It looks like the vents on the floor under the front driver and passenger seat would get in the way of a subwoofer there (and heat it up too in the winter). Is there a way to mount it there? Any other suggestions on location?

The stock Bose system uses a 6" dual voice coil sub in the center console under the cupholder area. You might be able to find one of those enclosures and install it. Although a bit involved because you have to remove the console (and possibly the seats) to do it.

With that being said, I'm sure an aftermarket 6" or 8" in an underseat box would sound just as good if not better.

Thanks. It's a non-Bose and there's no middle console because I need that middle jump seat. (Sorry my post was kinda wordy!)

Do you think the aftermarket would fit somewhere underseat?

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

Folks have installed subwoofers in one of the rear side compartments in these trucks. This way, it does not take up any cabin space.

There are some threads here in the Forum with photos on the work folks have done in these rear side compartments.

Other folks will chime in.

I have an SSL 8in pro slim sub amp combo in my rav4. Sounds amazing so i bet in the Tahoe it would sound great as well.

Awesome, thanks for the welcome and the replies! I'm definitely interested in underseat, and also seeing how others have worked a sub into the rear side components in the trunk so it doesn't take up space. When I was googling around, I saw people who did that with the older NBS Suburbans that (I think?) had a factory subwoofer back there.

I just did some more measurements under the middle row bench (60/40 split) seat.

There's more than one way to make a rectangle under there because of the feet and hinges of the bench seat.

There is one place 26" W x 10" L x 3.75" H (except 3.25" high over middle hump).
There is another place (overlaps w/ first place) that is 15.5" W x 18" L x 3" H in the middle.

Can anyone recommend an enclosure that would fit here? The SSA linked above seems to need 5.5" height.
