Thank you Doubleleive! Man I got excited when I saw your link. Unfortunately, my stereo is the NAVI kind so they have to hook it up.

I found a place that will do it for $50 (he has a Tech2) but he's wondering if he'll need special software and said that if he did need it, it would raise the price about $90. Of all I've read about it, I haven't seen anywhere that someone needed extra software on a Tech2 in order to make it work.

Where are you located? I just purchased a Tech2 emulator and unlocked my Nav radio that I just got. Doesn't need any special software other than the Tech2. Took all of 5 minutes to unlock it.

Thank you Slypher! If I hadn't already gotten it unlocked I would have sent it to you. I found a service and they did it for me for $50 plus $20 shipping. All in all, it cost me about $130 ($60 on ebay and $70 to unlock) I'm happy and it wasn't too much trouble. I would recommend them as well. I used https://www.global-auto-tech.com/ and they were very professional. They not only unlocked it, they tested everything (making sure all outputs worked) and sent me a checklist. I was happy with that because you never know what you're getting on ebay.

I'd also love to know more about this Tech2 emulator that you bought. Is it just software that you put on a laptop and some kind of OBD2 connector?

This is what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074365Q6H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The Tech2 interface is emulated on the computer and interfaces with other software to emulate the GM OBD connector. I will say though that I am an IT technician myself, and even I had a hell of a time trying to get the software working. The instructions are not very clear and the included DVD of software had several corrupt files which I had to spend a few days trying to source alternative downloads and then work that out. Finally got it working, and once I did, it works very well.
