Hi everybody. First post here. Help a brother out! ![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
This summer I bought a 2005 Escalade ESV Platinum with high miles, on eBay, which turned out to be a real shitshow. Needs a transfer case, front diff, rear air shocks and compressor, and thousands of dollars in interior and body repairs the eBay seller ever-so-thoughtfully did not disclose and photoshopped out etc. Awesome. EBay was good enough to cut me a check for part of the repair cost through their VPP insurance program, which covered the bodywork but none of the drivetrain work. Anyway, I am going to get rid of the truck.
BUT in the meantime, driving my two kids around... they have fallen in love with the RSE... the 2nd row Panasonic DVD (side style) and 3rd row flip down screen are awesome. In general the "lux" Bose stereo is awesome. It has the CDX and touchscreen nav, with "lux" smart amp etc... it also has on-star and XM neither of which I've activated since I bought the truck. I want to move all this stuff over to my new truck, that is replacing the Escalade.
Last month, I bought a cherry 2004 Yukon XL Quadrasteer with low miles and it's near perfect in every way. Essentially, all the options. Except... the stereo, nav, and RSE... this has the "non lux" Bose stereo, Onstar and XM, non CDX changer, no RSE, no happy kids watching DVDs while mom and dad drive up to the lake etc. I'm getting away with This Situation temporarily but long term I'm effed, and gotta get the Caddy system installed in the Yukon.
Which means I am trying to swap a "lux" Delphi/Bose system from a 2005 Escalade ESV Platinum into a "non lux" 2004 Yukon XL. We test installed the nav unit in the Yukon and it powered up and didn't freak out, until you switch off the power. So far so good. So I sent the nav head unit out to Carl Cowles at fixmyguages.com and he unlocked it. Great guy! Cool. Got it back, installed it in the Yukon and... big fizzle. Now, the head unit powers up and survives power cycle (VIN relearn working) but there is zero sound from any speakers. The amps look the same, connectors look the same, it's basically plug and play between the nav head unit and EITHER the "lux" amp from the Caddy or the "non lux" amp from the Yukon... but NEITHER is making any sound of any speakers.
What is obviously different is in the Caddy there is an extra connector and small ECU in the center console which seems to be connected to the BCM... this is just absent from the Yukon. Put everything in the Caddy, it works; move it into the Yukon, no sound. Dead end?
Seems like if we drag over the Caddy ECU and extra connectors... I'll still be screwed as the Caddy "stereo ECU" from the console, will be trying to talk to the BCIM / main ECU for the truck... will this work? Seems like the little computer in the 2005 "lux" center console is not going to want to talk to the 2004 "non lux" BCIM... my understanding is there is a bunch of signal processing happening on the 2005 "lux" BCIM... which if that's not there, the system ain't working. Is that correct? Because obviously we can't move the BCIM from the Escalade to the Yukon, if only because it's a different make and different version of the 6.0L, nevermind Quadrasteer, different stability control etc.
SO IS THERE AN OBI WAN KENOBI who can help me out here? My interiors/installer buddy and I are both kinda at our wit's end here. Obviously I could do something aftermarket, like headrest or standalone roof mount, but I'd REALLY prefer to move over the Bose/Panasonic system from the Caddy to the Yukon and keep it all OEM+ style rather than aftermarket.
Happy to talk to anybody who is 100% sure they know the answer, or whether this is a dead end. Just knowing the answer would be better than trying 3 more dead ends at this point... and of course, if we can Get 'Er Done that is the goal. I'm in the San Jose area if you want to meet up, otherwise please reply here so others in same situation can see the thread in future. I looked through the archives for an hour just now and don't see this exact issue in an older thread... maybe there's a link here or to another forum somebody has Been There Done That?![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
