I just purchased an 07 Tahoe Z71 with 5.3l. it has 141k on it bu it runs like brand new and looks like it has been well taken care of.

I plan on using synthetic due to high mileage, would Royal Purple be even more beneficial (keeping cost of RP in mind). Anyone have any experience with RP in our Tahoes? any thoughts?

I use RP in all my vehicles. Motor oil, gear oil and ATF (where I can) and manual tranny fluid also. Also use Max Clean, oil filters, Purple Ice, etc. Been a fan for a while. I noticed better mpg in my '03 Tahoe Z71. Got it with 72k and fresh oil, so ran it for 3k with conv oil. Avg 14.8 mpg mix city/hwy. change out rear diff and motor oil to RP and avg went to 15.3 with roughly same mix of city/hwy.

you cannot possibly associate a 3% change in mpg to a change in oil. your right foot and driving conditions are what will make the biggest difference in mpgs.

please read the links i posted OP.

This.

While I do like the benefits of synthetic oil and run Mobil 1 in my truck, I do not see the need for paying such a high markup for RP products.

Well I figured I would put a lil info from past oil results:

All of this is all personal experience. First off I use to be a huge fan of RP. Then I got a rude awakening. I used it in my built Honda (yes I know). And within 1500 miles its was like water. Now this car was NA daily driver. So after getting my Subaru WRX and becoming really gud friends with some great people we decided to do some independent testing. The following results were done at a Nucular power plant; doing oil testing there!

The RP broke down the fastest and worst (if that makes sense)!
Then we did Mobil 1 and it was the second worse oil tested
The best oil we found to get out of a local store was Castrol
Then the best that we tested was Amsoil.

Now all the oils were full syn. Now for me for the past 4 yrs I have used nothing but Castrol.

Interesting results. What kind of testing did you do?

Surpised to see that Mobil 1 didn't fare as well as the others, it consistently tested well in my last vehicle (toyota w/ 4.7) and allowed a 10K oil change interval (per blackstone labs). But I'm a big fan of Amsoil too(run it in my diffs). Problem is that its hard to source locally, but maybe I'll try harder from now on. Their gear oil and ATF is awesome.

testing

it was the typical oil testing. one of my friends and the oil sample guy at the Plant did all the testing. i was supprised that Mobil one did as bad as it did also.

but yea Amsoil is some great stuff. i used it in my rear diff on the WRX. great stuff but yea its hard to find on the shelf at any local stores.

yea i still dont let my oil changes go over 3k. just kinda habit i guess.

I am using the penzoil platnium synthetic on my 6.2 and it really cleans the motor buildup nice. The truck was purchased 8k miles ago and I guess they ran Dino oil but at every oil change the penzoil seems to be coming out less dirty which to me means its breaking down the gunk. I also use marvel mystery oil in my 93 octane.
