Hope this thread doesn't turn into another "help for PI case" with 87 posts and no word from the original poster and never resolved. I don't think this poster has any interest in any ones opinion now.

I still don't like it when a new member asks for help in the first post when they should be introducing themselves. Then when they get some opinions and help they never post back with the outcome or any other threads where they attempt to help others. "Introduction" is just that. Then post for any problems.

I'd be curious of the actual damage. With so many electronics and literally everything made of plastic, it doesn't take much of an impact to create a large claim. I had some one love tap the back of my truck (very low speed impact at a light). My 2" drop ball hitch went right through their front bumper. 0 damage to my truck, lots of damage and an ac condenser on their car). Then, to return the favor I rear-ended a Toyota Corolla a month later. I was rolling through the light at like 10 mph, look up at the rearview mirror as a semi is barreling down on me only to look back forward as the girl in front of me stalls and locks up her car (manual transmission with someone that had no clue how to drive a stick). The impact was so light that the little poodle and Kleenex box in the back window didn't move. Yet, it smashed the back trunk lid (my Suspension Maxx lift set my bumper up just high enough to clear her rear bumper). That little accident cost me $3500+ in damage!... not on my GMC Canyon mind you... that was on her mid 2000 era Corolla. I suffered a mildly bent front license plate and a slightly busted license plate bracket lol. Go figure. But I was at fault, so that's on me.

A deer decided to jump out in front of me one morning on my way to work on my 2016. drivers headlight mount tab broke, damaged grille inserts, front bumper, inner fender liner and the fender needed replaced. 6.5k in damage.

My buddy owns a body shop... he had a 17 Duramax Denali in that hit a deer. I think the repair quote was over 20k. Absolutely insane, it's no wonder car insurance is so high.

well unless your daughter is not on your insurance I don't see the problem, if you want to be honest and call them up and say hey my daughter just told me yada yada, you should still be covered and the bottom line is it really doesn't matter... and unless you or she reports it to DMV then it won't be on her driving record and only the insurance company will keep it on file for a certain time period, it may cause a rate increase for a period of time but that's it.
another question is if the accident was enough to trigger a recording, if the air bags were not deployed then "maybe" not, without knowing the technical details of how much of a force it takes to trigger a recording it's anybody's guess, if you accidentally hit the curb does it trigger a recording? if you hit a hard pothole in the road does it trigger a recording? if you hit a speedbump too fast does it trigger a recording? my guess is probably not.

Supposedly they constantly loop, they don’t hold data for an infinite time and they only hold enough for a few seconds before the accident and a few seconds after. So any data from that accident was overwritten long ago. I’m pretty sure the only time to retrieve data is immediately after a crash, before the vehicle is driven again, in which case the vehicle would have to be immobilized so airbags would be deployed etc.
