That looks like delaminating of the clear coat? If so those wheels need to be refinished.
thanks for the response. any idea what causes this delaminating? also, could these be calcium deposits? i live in an area that has hard water problems also.

It’s just clear coat failure. Could be from bad prep or just environmental conditions.

I doubt it’s calcium, but if you think so go look at a product called CLR. That’s for bathrooms but I’d look into it to see if it can be used on wheels either straight or diluted.

I agree with those suggesting clear coat delaminating. It’s likely caused by a small scratch somewhere that allowed moisture to get under it and it just spread. The fact that it’s just on the one half of the wheel backs this up in my mind. Calcium deposits would be more evenly distributed around the entire wheel.

My first impression is...... Your wheels are polished aluminum, with a clear-POWDERCOAT.
CLR and other solvents will etch the aluminum that's exposed.... (??)
I have a feeling, you will need to have the wheels stripped of the powdercoat & re-coated.

Since about half of the wheel is damaged, it looks like something got splashed onto it. ( How are the other wheels?)

Depending on the cost to refinish it, it may be cheaper to replace it? Maybe?
