I have a '03 Tahoe Z71 5.3L Flex Fuel and it will not start under 1/4 - 1/2 tank sometimes. It doesn't matter on the temperature or anything, it just sometimes starts and sometimes doesn't when under 1/2 tank. I have read in other threads that this could be due to the fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter, or fuel pump. I have replaced all three of those with brand new parts and the problem persists. It always starts above 1/2 tank with no problems. Spark plugs, battery, and alternator are new as well. Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

not to sound dumb.. but are you sure your gauge is right? These are known for bad clusters / and sending units. My truck 1/2 tank is EMPTY... I have to go by miles.. Still need to fix that damn thing!

I am not sure about the gauge cluster or sending/receiving unit, but when I fill it up, it corresponds with the amount needed. Like, half a tank, it takes 12-14 gallons to get it full, so I assume it's fairly accurate. Is there any way to test it, other than filling it up and seeing if it corresponds with the gauge?

I actually filled it up today; tank read low fuel and on empty, it took 23.3 gallons. So it was fairly accurate, giving it some buffer. I know you shouldn't run it that low, but now I know the gauge is within 1-2 gallons accurate.

I would agree - sounds like your gauge is right. My truck take 18-19 gal on 1/2 tank.. When it was working it would take about 23 Gal on E
