Tahoe PPV civilization thread.
So I see a lot of post asking similar PPV modded questions. I’ve been working ******* my PPV with some help from ChatGBT to solve these issues. And I’m making alot of headway. So I figured I’d make a post for future reference. Please feel free to contribute your experiences for the future newbies.
All my tips are based of a 2015 Tahoe PPV, this may vary based on year or generation.
“My horn doesn’t work”
RPO 9C1
This is because the horn circuit is cut so the police siren can be used in place of it. Under the center console carpet (you might have to dig), There is a small 2 wire taped up harness with 2 MATCHING green wires that have cut ends. Simply strip the two wires and tie them back together. Now test your horn it should work, connect them permanent and done.
“My rear doors don’t open from inside”
RPO code 6N5.
This is obviously so criminals don’t just let them selves out lol. It’s an easy fix, pull off the door panels and you’ll see the interior handles are not connected to anything. Pull back the rubber door insulation and you should find the cable tucked inside somewhere. Feed it back to the door handle and connect it back as it should go.
“My headlights don’t turn on automatically at dark, my DRL don’t come on during the day, my interior lights are dim”
RPO code 9C1
This is dark/surveillance mode. This is designed to help cops hide during a stake out while the engine is running.
This is a dealer reprogram option. I tried locksmiths with autotel, I looked into HPtuners and both came up empty. Not all dealers will reprogram this, it requires a vin specific license from GM corporate. I only found one in my area (NY metro) and they gave me an estimate of 2 hours $500. I also heard they charge you the license fee as well.
My main concern was my auto headlights. I’ve had auto headlights for 20 years, so now it’s easy to forget to turn them on or off.
My budget fix for this was a universal headlight control module from Amazon.
In dark mode our Tahoes headlights switch rest at “auto”. But it does not function as it should. So with wiring this module in it will work and appear as it does from the factory.
These modules have multiple ways of wiring. I chose negative trigger so I could wire it right behind the headlight switch.
Tie in the parking light trigger to green/gray at the switch.
Tie in the headlights trigger to the yellow/purple at the switch.
Tie in the module headlight input signal to chassis ground.
Wire up the rest of the module as specified in the instructions.
Run the photo sensor to an inconspicuous location.
Tuck it away behind the dash and forget its even there. $30 is much cheaper that $500+
I’m working on the rear windows don’t work from the back switches fix now. I need BCM wire schematics and rear Switch wire schematics if anybody has access.
