Hello all,

I am new to this forum, as we have purchased a 2009 Tahoe a few months ago. The vehicle has 130K miles. After owning it for a couple weeks, I noticed a vibration when braking. I replaced the front and rear drums and pads. I also recently replaced the passenger side wheel hub/bearing assembly. The braking vibration is gone, but the vehicle is not right. When slowly braking, it feels like it is "surging" when coming to a slow stop. However, when brakes are applied somewhat aggressively (50+ braking force) it comes to stop smoothly. Any ideas on what to check/replace? Thanks all!

how do your rotors look?
or when you say drum, are you referring to rotor?

I am not sure what exactly you mean by surging, but my Tahoe acted funny when I replaced my wheel bearing initially. After I replaced mine, once i got down to about 5-10 mph, the brake pedal would push back at me (like the ABS was engaging). It made it where I could not stop quickly sometimes.

My problem was there was a little bit of built up (dirt, rust, whatever) under my ABS sensor when I put it on the new wheel bearing. This caused the sensor to be too far away from whatever it senses on the inside (by too far away, i mean like the thickness of a few pieces of paper). I took the sensor off, cleaned it as well as where it mates to the wheel bearing, and the problem went away.

Possibly air in your brake lines.

By "surging" I mean it does not come to a smooth stop. Feels like the rotors are warped, but I just replaced them. It seems to get worse the more the brakes are heated up. I do not feel any vibrating or shuttering at higher speeds (above 10 mph). It just does it when I am rolling to a stop... weird huh?

Like pulsing? You can feel the whole car pulse to a stop?

Yes, exactly. I can feel it in the whole vehicle and not just the front end or rear end. "Pulsing" is more accurate. I just drove it home and did a test again at higher speeds, pushed the brakes pretty hard and it is smooth... It just happens when rolling to a stop....

Does it feel like warped rotors? Was it very rusty and or dirty? My bet would be the rotors are not seated properly. Have had this before. Doesn't take much.
