I don't know why but for the last month I've been kicking around the idea of what else would replace the Hoe. Well last Friday I got backed into while I was out golfing which dented the rear quarter and smashed the tail light, and I didn't really care which is surprising for me. It is going to be a PITA to get it fixed but all weekend I've been wondering if I should sell it and move on. My buddy has an '06 TBSS that I could get for a great deal because it needs brakes and tires and he has been trying to sell it for months. I'd almost be doing him a favour.
Anyway, I bought my '07 LT3 (basically an LTZ...even has Autoride) less than a year ago. I compared it to a TBSS and Hemi Jeep Grand Cherokee when I was looking for a new DD that can tow at least 6,000 lbs (I have a couple race cars I tow). The interior of the NNBS Tahoe is roughly 30x better than the Jeep and 20x better than the TBSS. Not to mention that EPA mileage for the Hoe is as good as the much smaller midsize SUVs and the 5.3L is a lot simpler than that Hemi.
Well I've been a bit let down on the mileage, 15.3mpg average, and 13.8 while towing. This is better towing than my buddy's TBSS (about 13.0) but he think he was getting high 15 mpg around town. One of my biggest gripes of almost every V8 SUV I was looking at is full time AWD. I hate it...but honestly even though I leave the Hoe in 2WD 99% of the time I guess I have changed my mind on AWD and I'd live with it.
I love how the Tahoe looks, feels, and rides. It tows well, but that 6.0L is so much more effortless accelerating. It is big which on most days isn't a big deal, and I've driven 7 people around a couple times which is nice, but the wife and I don't even consider taking it into Boston.
The biggest thing in my head...I paid $28k for the Hoe and I could get the TBSS for half that (the TBSS has about 80k mile). So my payments would be cut in half.
What do you guys think? It isn't that I don't think the Tahoe is awesome, it is just that I don't love it and that would be a first for me with vehicles.
