My daughter's PC is still Win7 or Win8. Works for what she uses it for (she's 11). I'll update it to Win10 someday if needed.

The real vulnerability is RDP(Remote Desktop Protocol). Close this port on your firewall and disable it in the windows firewall if that laptop accesses the internet.

You can do whatever you want. Just because you don’t get updates anymore does not mean it time for upgrade. I use it on a laptop that never sees internet and it’s w732b. Why throw away a perfectly good laptop that won’t run w10. SSD upgrade and it’s like a new laptop.
Because tech support won’t help you if you’re not on Win10. So if you get in a situation where the programming on a module hangs (like I did) or any other situation where you need help, they’ll tell you sorry no bueno. I had it on an old laptop running Win7 and I ended up having to install Win10 on it before they could help me. BTW you can still get free activated copies of Win10. You don’t need to throw the laptop away, if it runs 7 it will run 10.

what makes you think windows won't update? mine updates and vxdiag updates accordingly, gds2 works, tech2 win works x64bit I use both, I use tech2 win on the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2012 and gds2 on the 2018 both work thru the vxdiag
what is your point? you still don't believe it works? come over I will show in person it works just fine.

If you’re running Win7 accessing the internet you’re vulnerable to hackers unless you are getting security updates through Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates which is supposed to only be for large businesses that pay for it on a network of computers for an exorbitant price. I found a way to subscribe for free for my home desktop but it was a hassle and I don’t even know if I could do it again. I hate Win10 and will go to MacOS on my next desktop but for my Tech2 programming it’s ok. For now, I still get updates for Win7 through Windows Update for the near future.

I understand and that’s not the point. Not all computers can run w10 easily without using all of it resources and bogging it down. No point in upgrading if you can’t. I already know about the media creation tool for free w10 but is useless for my case. I also have no use for tech support on Chinese cracked software.

you obviously aren’t following along with the comments you made. W7 isn’t supported anymore so no updates will be given. If no updates are available then it’s vulnerable on the internet. Therefore I don’t use it for internet on they device. I have the gds2 installed on another laptop using w1064b using the same module.

you are correct anyone that doesn't have enough sense to use these types of software and keep it as a dedicated tool only (not put personal information on it) deserves whatever befalls them, actual GDS2/tech2 software & hardware cost over 10x more and requires periodic payed updates, I invested about $200 and I have a dedicated tool that works for what I need. I could invest another $200 and get a system that will work on dam near any vehicle made, chinese hard drive and a used lenovo laptop I didn't see that option until I had already bought what I did but works for me.

Yeah I bought a used 8 year old Dell for about $100 and updated it to Win10 for this one and only use. It doesn’t take much to run 10 unlike what people think (it’s actually easier on resources than 7) and for cheap money you have a dedicated programming laptop.

Anyone using TIS2000? I'm a mac guy and don't have any pc's. But I do have a couple old macs I could run XP or 7 on, and I have W10 on this computer.

I grabbed the tis2000 off the internet but still am not 100% sure on the requirements. I think is XP 32bit. But there's also something I read about the drivers being 16bit. Anyone using it?

Is it worth me paying the $80 for the vxdiag GM software license for my 96? Couldn't find it for a sneaky download on the interweb but I didn't look very hard.

I've read this thread and I'm still confused.

On an unrelated note. Search doesn't seem to work any more? I searched for Tech2 threads before I posted the thread in the OBS section and got 0 results? I've tried other searches and get no results too.
