I have both tech2 win and gds2 running on windows 10 64bit, so I don't know where you got that information but it is incorrect.
Notice:
1. The software of VXDIAG VCX NANO includes two parts: tech2win and GDS2.
Version of tech2win: V33.003
Version of GDS2: V2016.1.0
GDS2 can only work on win 7 64 bit and win 8 64 bit,Tech2win can work on win7/win8/XP 32bit.
2. The software is updated by CD while the firmware is updated online.

The red screen looks weird

When the Tech2 first boots up, it does a bunch of self tests listes on the screen. Do they all pass?

I think it was the angle of the pic I took. Actually a blue screen. When I turn it on it goes through the self tests so fast I can't read if they all passed.
Do I need the Candi module if I want to just run for codes and do tests?

sounds like when you call pc tech support and they tell you it won't do that, or you can't do that, it won't work, yet here it is

They don’t even support Win 7 or 8 anymore anyway, you’re supposed to upgrade to Win10.
You can do whatever you want. Just because you don’t get updates anymore does not mean it time for upgrade. I use it on a laptop that never sees internet and it’s w732b. Why throw away a perfectly good laptop that won’t run w10. SSD upgrade and it’s like a new laptop.
