My tech2 exhibits two issues.

1. It takes several power cycle attempts to connect to the CANDi. I assumed it was a bad cable connection.
2. When connecting to our 02 Envoy it also takes several power cycles to connect. When it fails the DIC in the cluster indicates “Unknown Driver”, the security warning illuminates and all the gauges go flat. When I power down the tech2 all is well.

could this be a funky VCI in the tech2?

Do you plug the aux cigarette lighter power cord into the hand held part of the unit or the port on the main cord?

I can’t remember if I read the importance of using the cord port for this power source when I was having problems with seeing my CANdi module or for some other reason, but it did seem to help with the stability of my Tech 2

I just straight power off the OBD port.

Maybe try adding the aux plug from the cigarette lighter to the cord port on the cord between the Tech 2 and the CANdi, see if that helps.

It did seem to make a difference in the stability I saw on my Tech 2. I assumed it had to have something to do with ground planes, but never really analyzed it.

Just a wild shot.

mine will do some weird stuff sometimes but i think I have a short in my fuseblock, since I secured the dangling harness under it I haven't really had a issue, I have seen the dealer tech2 do the same thing, I think when there is poor communication on the canbus it can do weird stuff. even with a regular scanner it was giving me a permanent error on the canbus till I moved the wires under fuse box.

To be clear, your 02 Envoy has no CANbus and no need for the CANDI module so you not using that with the Envoy, right?

After my experience with a shorted Tech2 cable I would suggest a good dose of caution here. I was lucky it did no vehicular damage when mine fused some of the Tech2 data cable.

I am not using the Candi on the 02 Envoy. Just on the 13 Suburban.
