I don’t know if I’d use the word “ruin” but all scientists agree that humans have caused climate change. No one argues that part. The focus is on what that climate change means, i.e., is it really bad, bad, or ok. That’s where the debate is.

So to be clear...the fat cats in ‘big oil’ are going to buy all car manufacturers?

It would be weird to see Mobil buy ford just to discontinue the electric mustang but crazy things happen.

no, I mean they would buy up whatever they can as a investment, not to shut it down, once electric takes off and gas takes a hit everyone and there brother will want in. And who knows maybe someone will create something totally different by then. cold fusion, co2 engines, advanced solar, atmospheric power grid, who knows a lot of technologies are getting serious money for development. we are only limited by our imagination.

Which brings us round circle back to Tesla. I don’t think oil companies would ever buy the auto manufacturers just to kill off electric cars. But if they were stupid enough to try it, Tesla and other new electric start ups would dominate. But like I said, the auto manufacturers won’t allow it to happen, they just want to sell cars, regardless of what fuel they use. Which is why they all have electrification plans. They don’t want to be caught selling buggy whips to consumers that have moved onto newer and better things. GM has a good electrification plan for this very reason.

I haven’t read much about GM’s plan but I think they are killing the volt...?

Maybe. I think they’ll just diversify into other methods of energy production. Electric cars need electricity so they’ll be able to profit off of that.

Wow. I get busy for a day, and this thread goes nuts. Fun! Some good conversation here.

This is ‘tussling’? LOL

Snowflakes, snowflakes (and morbid obesity) everywhere!

(Solid edit BTW!)

Nah, this is just for fun, right? I was just painting the picture a little so your conscience didn't bother you for cyber bullying me. No worries. I can hang. Lol.

Snowflakes.... yeah, they drive me nuts! I don't get offended by conversations about topics on which we disagree. I enjoy them. That's really what the whole thing boils down to, anyways, no? Raising people that are unable to cope with differences of opinion as opposed to hearing them and considering them valid? People who would throw bottles and command taxpayer funded police resources rather than let someone with an opposing viewpoint speak their mind? I get along great with lots of folks that think differently from me and vice versa. Take you and I, for example. We're besties, right? My dad used to say "Everybody's entitled to their own wrong opinion. Even me." Right he was.

Not sure about morbid obesity, but I hold the stance that it is absolutely not anybody's job (especially the government) to protect people from it with the exception of a parent protecting their child. People will make choices that make them fat and kill them. Let em.

Back to the Cybertruck...
I don't care if people like Teslas or want electric cars. It's when those people take issue with me liking my big gas guzzlers or want to take action to prevent me from doing so that I develop a problem. If a free market crushes the oil industry in favor of electric vehicles, so be it. I'll likely make biodiesel of my own. Now if the government says I can't.....hmmmm, not sure what I'd do. Maybe fight, maybe leave, maybe say "screw it" and buy a Tesla.

Story time...
I had some lady tell me off once because I had my truck running while I waited for my apprentice to come out from an apartment building. She commented in allusion to the fact that I was ruining the air she needed to breathe when she walked past me. My problem is that I react to that type of stimulus negatively. I put my right foot down a little (about 1500 rpm), held it there, and gave her permission to walk to her vehicle via any route she chose, as far away from my truck as she liked. She could even wait inside until I was gone or run fast and hold her breath. I choose to emit carbon monoxide at an elevated rate, and you can choose to it. Problem solved.

Mark my words, at some point the bill will come due and the fees at the "free" charging stations will kick in big time. Like getting hooked on drugs, it feels good now but the price will be paid. When no one is paying the fed and state gas taxes at the pump, how will the roads be funded?

Already is. If I understand correctly, unless you bought your Tesla before a certain date, you have to pay for the charge. I believe it cost roughly what it would per mile to fill your gas tank.

It’s still way less than gas (like 5 cents a mile) but I don’t think most Tesla owners buy them for $$ savings.
