Thank goodness for our Yukon being Flex Fuel

If you haven't been watching the news the Miami area is facing gas shortages due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Irma.

All of the stations have a wait of 45min to 2 hours to fill up.

As I was searching for a station that even had gas I remember that my Yukon is Flex Fuel.
Found a station that had E-85, filled up in less than 5 mins.

For any fellow Floridians remember that if you have a yellow gas cap you can use E-85.

You should be able to get fuel at the Snapper Creek Service Plaza in Miami..The Turnpike has fuel 24/7..I just fueled up at the Pompano Service Plaza minutes ago..Only waited 3 minutes.

Thanks for the reminder. Running errands yesterday brought me down to about 5/8 tank and then got a call to run down to Lake Worth and pick up a generator. That brought the tank down even lower. So at 02:30 this morning I went to a Racetrac in Boynton Beach and pulled right up amidst the busy gas pumps and took on just over 13 gallons of E-85 and hit the road back to Port Saint Lucie. I thought E-85 was more expensive, paid less than $2.50 per gallon.

Curiously, the Turnpike was a parking lot up my way as we left and I-95 had maybe a 1/10 of the traffic. For our return trip we took I-95 again and though it was busy like an early rush hour, I pretty much kept the cruise set at +8 the whole time with few interruptions. Averaged 15.4 mpg on that run.

The storm will hit the beach a lot weaker and thus far, it's forecasted to travel west of Lake Okeechobee. That's good for folks like me who live near the east coast, not so good for folks who live in the interior. This will be my 36th hurricane.

You guys heading north? Stay safe! Uncle and Father had places in Palm Aire in Pompano but sold them earlier this year. Heading down in March and hope things will be OK for all down there!

Hope you guys take cover or head north, My sister is on her way up from St. Pete, I'm putting her up in my 1978 Jayco motor home, it's a real *************, but that what you get for hiding the fact that you are bringing your cat with you. my 2 dogs would enjoy ***** for lunch.

Not going anywhere..Very hard to find fuel once you leave the Turnpike and get on I-75 or I-95 for days now..People were actually pulling guns on one another waiting for fuel as tempers are at their worst now..Thankful no one was shot.

Took me most of the day today to find a parking spot in a garage..There were none in Miami or Broward..Ended up finding one at the Palm Beach Airport which is completely out of my way..Had to take a car service to get home..At least the service car was a Suburban.

The useless Governor said he would he get fuel trucks to a most stations with police escorts to get them there quicker..Never happened..Did not see one police ****** with a fuel truck all week.

Heat index is around 107 with the jungle humidity so it will be no fun when the power goes out.

All I could do is pray for the best.

I think deep down you really miss Miami.

Funny, I know of a guy that always keeps his cars at KPBI during storms too. I used to live 10 minutes from the airport but now it's an hour away. I didn't see any police escorts either but people did tell me the troopers were helping out at the Turnpike rest stop gas stations.

While many of our gas stations are out of gas here on the Treasure Coast, there's still more than a few that have it, including two near my home and gas is plentiful especially in Fort Pierce.

At 0330 Friday morning there was a dozen cars waiting in line at the Sunoco near Gatlin and I-95.

People posted some videos/pictures of them online. Anyway, when you have 20 million people all trying to get somewhere at the same time it is not going to be good. I also read Florida only has a gasoline reserve of 7 days based on normal consumption, so shortages were inevitable.
