That annoying horn chirp.

Yeah, I tried that this morning. I don't know yet if that will solve my issue since this is intermittent, but I did discover that with the remote left in vehicle alert turned off, the horn still chirps if you leave the remote in the vehicle and lock and close the door. I thought turning that feature off would kill the chirp under those conditions. Perhaps I need a reflash on this thing. Anyone know where I can buy a '62 Nash Metropolitan....those were fairly simple.

The remote left in vehicle chirp setting is different than the chipr for leaving remote in vehicle and locking door. That one doesnt have a setting. I dont know of any situation id want ti lock the vehilce while having the fob inside. As it would allow anyone to walk up and unlock it and drive off.

That is correct. But I wanted to make certain that if I disabled the remote left in vehicle alert that I could still not be locked out. The manual doesn't always describe in great detail what these settings do. It's obvious to me that the vehicle software is not performing as intended and therefore I am a bit reluctant to trust that it will do exactly what the manual says it will do. The simple fact that I get chirps (occasionally) when I enter the vehicle and close the door, and (occasionally) exit the vehicle and get chirps when closing the door, tell me that something isn't right. If it was consistent I would examine what I was doing wrong. When it does these things apparently at random, I don't think the electronic stuff is working as intended or as advertised in the manual. I'm an old pro pilot who has learned to look at everything mechanical or electronic with suspicion when it functions either in ways other than designed or inconsistently.

There may be occasions when one may want to lock the vehicle with a fob inside. Like my wife’s fave trick of wanting to leave her purse in the car while we go to dinner or a concert or a movie…so it is a thing.

Now you have me wondering…seems possibly a thorough science experiment is in order. Think up alll the combinations of vehicle on/off and fob in/out and door open/closes and in Driver seat or not, and just test and record results…

I've tried to do that, but the problem is that sometimes it will go days without chirping, then it starts again. Most recently I was out of town last week for four days. It didn't chirp until I was on the way back home when I refueled. And then it only chirped after I got out of the car, with the fob in my pocket. Such an experiment would take longer than the ten years I expect to keep this vehicle, assuming I don't do the chainsaw thing first.

This vehicle was preceeded by two Tahoes and a Suburban, all of which were trouble free and aggravation free vehicles. But I'll listen to any other suggestions you have.

So, now, after reading this thread, I have been more observant.

Today, I got back in my Denali after a car wash...and got 3 beeps before I started it.

Here was the sequence:
1) Enter vehicle at home, after it sat all night in the garage -- normal, the vehicle did its normal "wake up" when I got in the garage (interior lights on, GMC logo on the ground at the liftgate, and heard the fuel pump prime), no chirps
2) Start vehicle in garage and drive to car wash.
3) Put vehicle in neutral at car wash, turn off engine (with me remaining IN the vehicle)
4) At end of was tunnel, start engine, put in drive, drive out of tunnel to the interior, wipe down, vacuum bays
5) Vehicle in Park, shut off engine, open driver door, exit vehicle w/ fob in my pocket.
6) Car wash people vacuum, wash windows, etc, close two rear doors, rear liftgate, and passenger door, never closing driver door, finally signal me when done
7) I enter vehicle with fob in my pocket, close driver door...3 chirps (likely signifying that the fob was left in the vehicle).
8) Start Vehicle, put in Drive, drive to work.

I think this makes sense, since to the vehicle, the actions in #5, 6, 7 would look to the vehicle like I left the FOB in the car, and closed the door with the engine off.

I hope that's a malfunction otherwise that would indicate that GM allows this thing to chirp even when someone is sitting in the driver seat. I have assumed that something like the seatbelt sensor would tell the control module that it's OK that the fob is in the car because a driver is in there too. In fact I can think of no situation in which the car should chirp when the driver seat is occupied. I have also wondered if there has been an over the air software update that has brought on this behavior. As I think back I realize this wasn't a problem for the first six months of ownership, but started last winter. And I still have the occasional triple chirp when I get out of the car to refuel, fob in pocket, and close the door. And I'll tell you another very, very weird thing. My wife's new 22 Buick Enclave occasionally does the same thing, both in the garage and away from the house. Her's did it yesterday when I was sitting in the driver seat and she got in the passenger seat and closed the door. Perhaps I need to quit drinking.

I can assure you it can chirp with you sitting in the driver seat. Do this:

1. Go out to vehicle.
2. Open door.
3. Get in with fob.
4. Start Vehicle.
5. Turn off vehicle.
6. Open door (don’t get out)
7. Close Door.
8. Hear 3 horn chirps for fob in vehicle.

I think the algorithm only looks for fob in vehicle, not anyone in seat

Well, I think that's correct. I have disabled the setting to chirp when fob is left in vehicle, but when I open the door after turning off the vehicle, before I have a chance to get out I get a warning on the DIC along with the chime that the fob is left in vehicle. I did not get out, as per your instructions, and I do not get a chirp when I close the door. However when I went to try this suggestion the darned thing did chirp when I first got in and closed the door. I'd like to talk to the brain trust who designed this system.

I am enjoying this thread because my 2022 Yukon Denali also seems to give me random chirps. Not all that often but it did happen two days ago for no reason that I could figure out. I have pretty much learned to think about it, but also to ignore it. As I have said before, I think the new vehicles are using some version of the HAL 9000 software.
