Got rear ended in bumper to bumper traffic on the Freeway.
I was pulling a small empty trailer. Maybe 5-8 mph. Only
scratched the trailer.

Needs a new frame!!!! Cannot fix the new hydro formed
frames. 10-11K

Believe it or not my dad had a similar thing happen towing a trailer and it wasn't even a very hard impact...guy rear ended him at a few mph coming to a stop at a light while my dad was towing a trailer.

Didn't look like much visually other than a bent hitch but dad said his back hatch didn't seem to 'shut right' after..... I looked at it and told him to take it to a shop w a frame machine to take a look....they discovered the game was bent all the way up to the front bulkhead!!

If they replace the frame won't you end up with a Diminished Value statement on your title? Not a big deal if you lease and return but no bueno if you own and ever want to sell it.

Would be an uphill battle but you need to get your insurance to total it.

Otherwise, as mentioned, see what the dealer says. Pretty sad GM touts the durability of their trucks and an 8mph crash renders the vehicle useless.

WOW! That sucks. Hopefully this doesn't happen to me otherwise I'll be pushing the insurance company to total the vehicle.

Sorry for the damage. Just a note, no matter how small the crash...if the trailer is what is hit and pushed into the ride...all of that impact is put on the frame at one small point...not spread out like a normal impact.

Depends on insurance. Some insurance companies will only replace frames when they have damage, others will do the ends. That one is a contender for just new ends (we section them on). No different than the old frames. We do them all the time.

I T-***** an idiot who pulled out in front of my 08 Envoy a while back. The front end was all crumpled. They wound up replacing the front frame end. It's very common apparently and body shops can get the frame ends directly from GM. The rest of the frame had about 7 hours on the frame jig and yes, that was a hydro-formed frame. The truck was right as rain when it was all done.
9 grand in total damage but nothing was reported to Carfax. Bottom line... I wouldn't use carfax as a buying decision.
