A man's got to know his limitations. </Callahan, H.>

So here is the update:
Laguanitas 0, me 2
Mirror Pond 0, me 2
Canadian Club 0, me 1
Fuel filter 1, me 0

From a mathematical standpoint, I still win.

I gave it another valiant effort last night but I could not get the line to release.

This is what my little darling looks like:

My understanding is that the fitting the arrow points to is supposed to slide back and forth and that is key to getting the quick release tool to work. Mine doesn't slide.

I also recall my former mechanic complaining about how difficult that fuel filter was to replace when he did a big tune-up 3 years ago. Now I wonder if he did something wrong and that is why I can't get it off. Wishful thinking probably.

It is at the dealer now and I told them I would require a full debrief. I know I am paying way too much to have them do it but they are right across the street from where I work.

I will update one more time when I hear from them.

On the plus side, no codes this morning....the last couple times I cleared them, they came back immediately so maybe all this tinkering is getting me somewhere.

I would bet that mechanic did something wrong and jacked something up. I guess good thing he's a former mechanic :D
