petethepug some plug wires ive gotten already had the grease inside the boot so thats also possible. as far as tonyrodz comment if your running headers you should always have boot sleeves on also. some wires made with higher temp material will last longer close to headers but sleeves are the end fix.

Although one of my sleeves burned through.

sadly nothing is perfect it happens. had one that was touching the header on my f150 and burned through as well. replaced it and it was fine after that.

Was about to order the Taylor 10.4mm 409-series wires, as mine are of unknown age/mileage. Anyone with experience with this brand have any opinions to share?

Not sure, but it did say unavailable at this time. The boots went great with my headers. Didn't burn any of them.

Oh wait, were yours special for trucks with headers? I just have the stock manifolds.

They worked good with my headers, but they'd work fine with the stock manifolds too.
