Hello guys
About 4 years ago I bought a 06 Sierra Z71 with 101k miles from one of my neighbors. I did regular oil changes (always used Castrol full synthetic oil) but not much maintenance as the truck has been very reliable. Now that the truck has hit 211,*** miles it was time to start doing some major maintenance as I started to see some oil wet spots through out the motor. So this weekend I removed the front diff and replace all the seals on the front diff as 2 were leaking, the internals looked good. Since the front diff was out already I replaced the oil pan gasket (not leaking just wet), to my surprise I did not find any sludge on the oil pan so I installed everything back and moved to the top of the engine. The valve covers were also wet and so was the valley pan area. I then removed the intake manifold, valley pan along with the valve covers. I was also surprised to see that the head internals were clean (no sludge what so ever). So I figure I would share the picture of the head internals for you guys to see, and see why it's always good to use synthetic oils.

Been using Mobil 1 forever..I change out between 5-8K miles depending on how much gridlock I am in..I only use AC Delco filters in the Tahoe.

Love seeing stories like this! Thanks for sharing. With the minimal price difference between a good synthetic and dino oil now, it baffles me why anyone wouldn't use it.

That's awesome at 211k miles! Back when I had my durango, I bought it with 135k and switched to synthetic oil and my durango ran like a champ. When I bought my denali at 74k 2 years ago, I was worried that switching it to synthetic was too early. But I haven't had any issues regarding that area of engine 24k later. Everything is still super clean and running strong. Plus synthetic is not much more expensive if at all. And being able to go 5k in between oil changes is great.

Your engine is clean inside. You use synthetic oil. Therefore only synthetic oil will keep an engine clean inside.

I use Mobil 1 in my Yukon and Sienna and Castrol in my Highlander and RAV4. Both look about the same, but I'm very **** about changing oil. Conventional oil has come a long way in the last 20 years. Synthetic is the way to go if you are towing, stop and go, or have a lead foot or go farther than you should on oil changes.

Nice! Gotta love it right?! My 04 tahoes 5.3 has never seen anything other than Mobil 1 synthetic. I still change the oil approx every 3k miles. I have 114k on it now and knock on wood haven't had any major issues or any oil leaks or residual residue hangin around.

I'm changing my Yukon about every 5K depending on how dirty it looks.
