Sounded like you still had some pent-up aggravation: "You see where it comes up and does a hump in the top of it? You can't get the GOD DAMNED timing cover off unless you remove that and the oil pan, the upper oil pan has to come off for that."
The original plan was to remove the timing cover without the oil pan removal, because the leak was up high on the passenger side of timing cover. The information we looked up referenced the 1GR-FE 4.0 engine and did not mention the oil pan removal and the info we found at FJ Forum did not mention the oil pan removal. Turns out that the 2007 thru 2009 1GR-FE engines had the oil filter up high on the front driver's side and then the 1GR-FE 4.0 went to the low and in front oil filter on the 2010 thru 2014 engines. The engine had some design changes but still had the same designation of 1GR-FE. Toyota should have changed the designation in some way. The removal of the upper oil pan required front differential removal, rack and pinion removal, axles removal and all that had to be removed for those removals. That hump is part of the upper oil pan. The oil filter housing bolts up to that hump. PITFA for sure!!!!!!!!!

Gotta pay for that Snap On tool box some how. I just inspected and sold the valve cover gasket work and new plugs and new ignition coils and the serpentine belt/tensioner/idler for a 2015 Ford Escape. 1.6 engine with a turbo. Further back in my thread here, I have also fixed a broken/bad coolant leak hose assembly on the same vehicle. He is a friend of the landlord, that the landlord recommended to me. He is coming up on the 100k maintenance and it turns out that typically the valve covers always end up leaking oil in to the spark plug tubes. It said to do a coolant change at 100k but I did that with the hose repair. He had a friend do an oil change and engine air filter and cabin air filter just before I came on the scene, so these recommendations will not be needed and he had the wipers all replaced too. Here is a link, that goes pretty fast, of the work to get to and replace the valve cover gasket:

I forgot to say that he had asked the dealer for an estimate to do this work. They told him $2300, parts and labor. To tell you the truth, looks like the belt replacement and tensioner/idler replacement, will be a b*i*t*c*h.

I drove my friend to get his FJ Cruiser, this afternoon. My new to me Snap On box was moved out of where it was and all drawers were cleaned out. I am going, with my trailer, and getting it at 9 am. Back here and then have to transfer tools. Then put my old ones up for sale.
