As the title said....I've got my eye on a 2-door Tahoe, a 99. I've been in love with these trucks since they came out, but I also know the tranny problems that they can be plagued with.

Found a guy selling on here locally (LOUISIANA) with 80k miles on it. It's had 4 owners. It's a 2 wd. Tranny was replaced a few years ago. Water pump was replaced a year ago and fuel pump was replaced 8 years ago. The guy selling it replaced an intake gasket on it last week. Heat and A/C both work. The downs to the truck are that the rear door actuator needs to be replaced and the power steering line has a small leak (which in my mind, I'm going to say maybe the pump will have to be replaced fairly soon). He's asking $5K for it, I want to offer him 4.

The biggest pro is that this vehicle was purchased in the South and has been here it's entire life, which means no rust concerns. It will be my daily driver, so my 08 CC Silverado will get a rest with 106k miles on it....but eventually it will probably be a project truck for me. Any suggestions as to if this is a good buy or things I should be concerned about with this vehicle before I go take a test drive tomorrow would be super greatly appreciated!

first the 1999 4l60 had improvements that help it last longer then the years before hence when older ones get rebuilt they should include the most current upgrades so all years benefit. and they are no more problematic as other trannies out there. they just have specific problems specific to their particular design. i would not pay 5k for a non 4wd 1999 model. why is he selling it after he just fixed the intake gasket? something inside he did not like? and why because the fluid line leaks does the pump need to be replaced? is the pump vanes or bearing making unusual noises.

if it is absolute pristine for a 2wd 2dr then maybe 4000-4500. i dont price based on 2 dr popularity i price it on functionality, operational and maintenance history, and applicability to your required needs.

Thanks Sunlit. I'll make sure I address those issues when I go take a test drive this evening. Also having him meet me at my mechanics shop so he can look it over too.

Sounds like a lot of stuff has been replaced for only having 80k on it. Ask him why the transmission was rebuilt. 4L60Es are good for well over 200k for normal duty. They fail more commonly in the pickups because they get much harder abuse from towing too much and stupid kids driving them.

2wd 2 doors can be hard to find. I wouldn't even consider paying 4k unless it has leather interior and all the options.

Too much going on for just 80k. Sounds like maybe previous owners might have abused it? I wouldnt pay close to that since its 2wd. Its probably gonna need bushings considering age check them and well inspect the whole hoe

So the truck was a NO GO. Had my mechanic drive it and thinks that the engine has more miles on it than the odometer says. Vehicle was going to need too much work just starting out......rotors,pads, fix of the steering leak, windshield, thermostat was reading lower than it should have.....pretty much a money pit. And the guy selling didn't want to back off his 5k asking price......guess I'm back to the drawing board
