So, with truck prices in the stratosphere, I've thought about making my own truck. Around here in the midwest, escalade and Denali's xl are pretty cheap for city bombers. So.....I have debated buying a cheap one and cutting off the roof and gutting the interior to make a wood hauler. I think it would be a fun project (wife may disagree) and just beat the hell out of it......figuratively speaking- I don't beat stuff. But, it would get logs thrown where seats were, etc.

I'd leave the front doors intact with the roof and sunroof - because you can use a sunroof LOL

This is just for feelers, I may, or may not do it, but figured it'd be a good discussion. If anyone here has done something similar I'd like to hear about it!

Cheers brothers!

disconnect the battery and leave the airbag fuse out and have at it, make some strategic holes in the floor so it doesn't become a fish tank when it rains, once the seats are out you could put some boards and playwood in to make it all level because it drops down forward of the 3rd row.
cap off the rear ac somewhere and heater hoses at the firewall t's, then you can tear out all the rear panels and rear heater box for extra space

I was at the Dayton mall once and some guys had cut the top off an old mini van right above the doors they just left the windshield. It was their permanent convertible beater and it looked like they were having a blast driving it around. The body wasn’t stiff enough without the roof so they did a very clean job of shooting spray foam in between the doors and body to stiffen it up. The doors were permanently closed of course.

Why don't you buy an avalanche?

OK gents, thank you for all the good suggestions and spirited replies!

I like the idea of an avalanche....but it would have to be a Cadillac ext so I can get the 6.2L. Also agreed it may not be as cheap as other options, just thought it may be fun to get one more good use out of a $2000 beater before the scrap yard.

I have a trailer and sometimes it's just more convenient to get out in the woods without one, but good thoughts nonetheless.

I'll keep the post and update if I go through with it. Wood season is soon, so we'll see.
