How does constraint allocation work across Chevy & GMC brands at a dealer who sells both? Does a dealer get their allocation on a per-brand basis? For instance, if I put in an order for a Denali with Max Trailering, and then the dealer gets only one allocation for Max Trailering on a Tahoe, can the dealer transfer the Max Trailering to the GMC order? Or would I have to work with the dealer to change my order to a Tahoe?

I'd expect it to be two separate allocation processes as earlier in the year the Yukon and Tahoe constraints were listed separately. wouldn't expect the allocations to be shared between brands

Also my opinion...opinion only...is that dealers aren't bound to submit "your" order for acceptance. Sure there may be a "list" - but how official is their list? Is it in word or excel...or even better - a post it? Like the link above mentioned, they have to assign a priority number to it (maybe this is their list...?) but can they push a higher priority # build that is exactly the same build over a build with a lower # (assuming lower priority # = next in line)
You may have submitted your order two months ago and their buddy is looking for something similar, so they instead use their allocation for the buddy when they may have never even submitted an initial order and your build is next in line for that elusive constrained allocation.

Absolutely, agree with everything you've said. The dealer gets to decide how to "spend" that allocation. They can pick any order they want to actually move forward (subject to constraints of course). And yes, I have no guarantee that they didn't push any orders in front of me over those last 2 months. In fact it almost seems likely...did they really go 2 months without a single allocation? They seem like an honest dealer, but who knows?

That's why I've been trying to focus on other and preferably larger volume dealers. I found one larger dealer who will honor GM Supplier pricing but wants to add $2K in add-ons like window tint, paint protection etc. They tell me the actual cost of this package is about $1K, so obviously it is a way to make another $1K. I may end up sucking it up just to have a dealer that seems to get allocations. I offered to give them $1K over Supplier price but leave off that package as a compromise..they still get their extra $1K in profit and I save $1K. But I don't think they will agree to it.

Just an update, heard from my dealer today that my tpw us still on for the week of 9/12, so i asked if it was possible to get bumped again, and he had never seen it get bumped this close to production so its looking like my ride will finally get built! Sorry i havent updated lately, but there wasnt any changes in the 6 week bumped back period to justify mentioning it. Hopefully it will be one of the first few off the line next week as i have been on the tpw of 9/12 since last part of july so should be in the system before others. Then again with GM, they may decide to put it at tail end after all the others for next week.

LS tahoe with bench seats in all 3 rows. No other options as the only one i wanted (drivers alert package) was on constraint. 4wd. So basically a stock ride.

Update sorry I have been sick with CoVid picked up my 2023 Tahoe premier about 9 days ago today I am not happy with it though I think it drives rough and it’s loud. Took it back to the dealer yesterday since I tested negative and they said it was because it had 4 pipes I don’t understand why they put loud pipes on a luxury truck see pictures below. I hope everyone else soon get their ride

You mean the quad tip exhaust? That’s standard on premier and HC. Sounds good, I don’t think it’s loud. Premier has magnetic ride and with the 20” rims that should tide very nice.

Check your tire pressure. When I picked up my Escalade, they had the tire pressure at 41 when it was supposed to be 35.

I second this. My tire pressure was around 45 lbs when I picked it up from the dealership. Every defect in the road was magnified. Dropped it to 35 and it dramatically improved.

Thanks for that link, definitely some good info there! But honestly I don't see anything in those posts that says that custom orders don't take away from their total allocation. Every dealer I've talked to said the same thing...they are given a certain number of vehicles to order for a given ordering cycle and it doesn't matter if they are general stock orders or custom orders, the number is the number.

It was interesting to read the part about constraints and the example they gave with Torch Red Stingrays at 10%. So if the Duramax is also constrained at 10% (as I've heard), then if I don't find a dealer that gets at least 10 Yukon allocations per cycle, it will never get filled?

My dealer explained to me that for every 2 “sold”
Orders they put in, they received three more allocations. So, there is definitely some incentive to do that. Now, there are other “rules” w/ a sold order, like it has to get off the lot in some short time after delivery to the dealer (maybe 72 hours?). Anyway, that is why it is advantageous to dealers to sell vehicles…
