if you look closely at my license plate you can see the black dot in the middle. that black dot is my camera. i drilled a hole and mounted it in the middle there. behind the plate is an open area in the bumper so it worked out perfect. i ran the wires up through the driver side taillight and to the front. i've got it hooked up to a 5" clarion monitor up front.

thats how i did mine, you ever get a ticket for drilling into your liscense plate? I'll post a pic of mine later

no, knockin on wood, LOL.. i haven't had any problems with it at all. it's really not that noticeable till you throw it in reverse and the screen turns on. the screen stays off till the camera turns on then it goes back off..

bub, that came out nice... i like that. did the camera come with that housing or you made it??

thanks. the camera was originally part of a license plate frame but in order for it to work you would have to notch a section in the plate for it to sit right. i didn't like that idea. the part you see on the sides of the camera is the frame itself. i just cut it and smoothed out the edges. i made the plate for it that attaches to the hitch.

Do you have any more pics of that plate you made? What was it made out of? This is going to be my weekend project and I am not sure how I am going to get something to stay fixed to the hitch without drilling into it OR do I make something that fits inside that void in there.

I like that idea. The camera I ordered just came in and is a cylinder. Two questions (1)The camera I have is suppose to have night vision does the illumination from the license plate lights have any effect on your camera at night? (2) Is it illegal to drill into the plate? I don't see that it would as long as your not obstructing the #'s.

thin sheet metal that was thin enough but still sturdy. it has sides on it that attaches to the outside of the hitch by 3m molding tape.

I finally decided to scrap the making an insert and figured out a way to bolt it in and make it a little harder to steal. It bolts into the factory bolts that suppport the trailer hitch.

Installed my led back up camera last night.. tucked it away very sleek in the gap between the lift gate and the bumper... has about 1/4" clearance of gate,, shows the end of my bumper and the trailer ball perfect..
