Just block it off, mine has the same code, it's a gummed up egr valve (on the front of the intake manifold) I bought a piece of solid gasket material and traced the outline of the egr gasket and cut it out and replaced it so that the egr is technically not there. Made a world of difference, my truck runs better than it ever did, I didn't even notice a loss of economy, but lots more power. And don't believe the stories of pinging and detonation from not having it, I tried to induce it to no avail.

i was thinking about that... but i was a little confused, not on how to do it or anything, but if i were to block it off wouldnt the computer still think its there and throw codes and skrew with the engine that way? if it doesnt that would be great.

unknown at this time.
Actually I failed to mention that if is an egr code the egr vacuum line valve solenoid or the wiring is at fualt. Sorry forgot you were OBD1

It is probably broken cutting off control of the vacuum flow to the egr and the engine drivability is reacting to the change.
