Sorry for the crude video it's hard to get this noise on camera. Has anyone had an issue with a noticable mechanical thumping noise that happens when you turn the steering wheel? It usually happens when backing up and only happens once each individual trip. One time it happened when I turned from a stop and accelerated. You'll see it happens towards the end of the clip. I feel like when you turn up the volume and watch it in a loop it becomes more and more apparent.

I am assuming it is still under warranty. What does the dealer say? It sounds like could be something like a rack mount or trans mount? Does it only happen at the steering lock point?

Yea under warranty it has about 29k miles. So far the dealer is having a hard time replicating the noise. I have sent them the video and they are currently relooking. have had it happen at various parts of the steering process. Mostly towards the end of the steering like the video showed. But that time I started accelerating and turning from zero it happened early in the steering process.

I manage to catch the noise better on video.

Could it be a loose strut or tie rod?

Edit: it only happens when I turn the wheel to the left when the car is moving.

Well, when you turn left while moving, you are loading the right side and that could be the location of the noise. BUT, maybe the noise is actually coming from the right when it is unloaded during a moving left turn.

That noise sure sounded like the well known noise at the lower column bearing and intermediate shaft, on the older Chevy's, that happened turning left or right. My, new to me and my girl, 2004 Silverado K2500HD makes that noise. but it does it no matter which way I turn and I know what the cause is.

You might bring that up to the dealer.
