2005 Yukon XL 5.3 140k miles. For the very first time, Sunday morning: started up and TAP TAP TAP TAP. Checked the oil = full. Drove 2 blocks and voila...taping totally gone!?!?!? Ever heard of this?
Can't wait to turn the key Monday morning!

It was the lifters on the left side! Man, am I glad I didn't do the head gasket LAST month because of a coolant leak as it'll be done now!!!

If you are already gonna be in there, do lifters on both sides but you can drive those lifters that way for a long time with no problems other than a noise.

I'm not a gambling man. I can't sleep with: "Well...it may never happen again". If it went bad on one side....I'll do both sides! I like this model so much, and dislike the newer ones...will fix it. What makes a lifter go bad at 140k anyway. !?!?!?!

Tapping from the lifters is a well known problem. Doesn't happen to every engine though. It can also be linked to poor quality oil, filter and maintenance patterns. It is what it is. I love the NBS model as well and will fix my engine or replace if needed without hesitation.

My last Burb was a 2003 with a lifter tick that came and went for the 58,000 miles I owned it. Would go away after it ran a few minutes. Sometimes it would go for months without making any noise.

Yea, when you start to get to the point where the tap noise does not go away, then start planning for at least lifters, if not the cam as well.

New lifters both sides. Woke up for my 1st cold start - expecting to hear something from River Dance! LOL Quieter then new! Now (from my other thread), let's see how the coolant leakage goes. Those AC Delco tablets worked like a charm. Now that we're flushed the system and replaced the (possibly bad) head gaskets...let's just see how that goes!
