Hello everyone

My 2004 tahoe was missing the tire sensors. Went ahead and installed the sensors and sync/programmed them to the car.

Got the tire pressure to 32PSi as recommended and I went off on a drive ... The "check tire sensor" message pop up.

Plugged in the code reader and it showed the reading of the sensors at 16psi

I'm not sure why the sensors reading the tires to be 16psi because that means it's flat tire. .

Please advise

Kind of weird them reading 16 psi with out you noticing the tire being flat. They would for sure look close to flat. Also 32 is a bit low for any truck. I would bump it up to 35 or even 40 and see if that turns the light off. Also I have heard that getting the after market sensors sometimes have crazy readings and issues. Not sure on what sensors you got aftermarket or dealer item. Good luck.

my truck states 35 psi inside the door, as i'm sure all NBS probably do...i just put in the Dorman sensors from amazon and they are dead accurate. didn't know the code reader would read tire psi, ill have to try that.

16psi is definitely low and almost flat. The sticker on the side door shows 32psi. But, I also thought its a bit low so I bumped it up to 35psi just to see if I get any different readings. They are indeed aftermarket sensors.

It sucks that I think I need to go pay to remove them and take it back to the dealer. which mean I need to pay to install them and reprogram them. Sigh

You don't need to pay to reprogram them you can do that yourself. Most tire places will install the sensors as well, probably cheaper than the dealer.

I didn't go to the dealer to do it. Tire shops don't have the programmer. I paid about 30 bucks at a store but I think he might be kind enough to do it for me again. I go there for my 2dr Yukon and my 04 Tahoe.

How are you guys getting the actual psi readings? I've never seen that on my 04.

Code readers will not read them but for the high dollar computers they should read the PSI, you just have to find the right settings. Also I'm talking about the $10K computers like my padre has. His does all sorts of stuff.

Your truck will not read them, it will just set of a light saying its too low. As stated above some computers will be able to read the actual PSI.

You don't need a programmer just do the procedure in the manual

Not positive on the older models 06 and down but 07 + you do need a programmer. Amazon sells them for like $80ish and I will prolly be ordering one soon. All the shops around my place are going to make me set up an appointment and then pay for something that you can teach a 5 year old to do. If any of you are around a Discount Tire or Big O's (discount tire bought them out) then they should do it for free. Takes literally 2 minutes as long as your sensor is not broken.
