Tires….. I'm sure there are other options?

Hey all -

I just picked up a 2011 Tahoe LTZ and dropped off my 2007 Yukon. I love the Tahoe - fully loaded and a great ride.

Only problem is the tires are really worn, and I need to get new ones - which honestly I kind of look forward to.

The size on there now is the 255/50/20 standard - and I'm really having a hard time finding a good replacement that is a more aggressive, all weather, kind of tire - I'm used to running BFG All Terrains and things like that - and when I had the 17" rims on the Yukon, I had more options.

I ran a tire calculator to get an estimate on actual size, and other options - but still no real luck.

I figured I'd throw it out to the team -

If you've got 20's on your Yukon or Tahoe - stock everything else - what are you running for tires?

275/55/20s are standard....not 255/55/20. Which might be part of the issue you are having finding them.

I'm running the stock Alenza's...2nd set...first set lasted almost 50K and I only replaced them because 2 of them had nails in them. This set has 37K and I had the depth checked a couple weeks ago when I had them rotated and balanced. All 4 were either 7/32 or 8/32.

They also are on sale at Discount Tire right now...$160 apiece.

Are you wanting to run stock sized tire but more aggressive tread?
Are you wanting to run a slightly larger tire with more aggressive tread without leveling or lifting the truck?
Are you wanting to run a leveling or lift kit?

These are questions that need be answered in order to give an accurate answer to your question.

they are 275/50/20 on there now

I want about the same size (ok with a touch more in the diameter and width if need be) and yes more aggressive tread. I like the off road look in a softer tire that rides well.

no lifts or levelers - the thing barely fits in the garage - as it is I had to take off the roof rack crossbars.

I've got about 10k miles on my Hankook Dynapro ATM's with no issues, they ride great and have a great looking tread pattern. Stuck with my stock LTZ 20's and stock tire size. Pics are in my album.

Michelin LTX AT2 have a bit of an off-road tread. And is a 60k tire

can't speak for the ride but I'm sure it's soft.

I just put michelin LTX MS2 on my yukon and the ride is amazing, 70k tire but non off-road.

I run cooper discoverer ATP on my pick up. 50k tire. Nice off-road pattern. About 15k so far and no signs of wear. Ride is definitely stiffer than the michelins though.

One thing I found was the 20" rims really do not lend themselves well to "off roading" I imagine you can get some aggressive tires, but you might be well off to get aftermarket 17" rims if you want to Off Roading... I actually think the owners manual states as much...

I have a friend with some 18" rims for a 2013 Chevy Truck that only have 400 miles on them, but the tires for 18" ended up being more expensive than for my 20's

I went with the Michelin LTX MS2 tires as well, and am delighted, they drive so nice, the ride is phenomenal and the noise is so minimal...

On my van and the old Pilot I had continental LX20s and loved them. Never had a traction issue no matter if it was wet or dry. They were quiet and lasted forever. Its either a 60k or 70k tire and low rolling resistance.
