Fellas, I have had a 2001 z71 Yukon with 230 on the clock for close to a year now and from what I can tell and have read the a/c compressor is going bad. I have had to the replace the tensioner pulley and it runs like im driving through sand and nearly shut down when a/c is turned on. I have ordered new parts. My question is, I have to make a two hour trip tomorrow, would it f anything up if I just took off the a/c compressor belt as long as I don't turn on the a/c?

Nope. Should be good. However can't you just leave the AC off and it won't cycle...

Well, I thought the same thing but it seems to run bad with it off and worse with it on. the tensioner pulley, the second new one, squeals all the time and the power steering is whining. Bout to take it off and see if it helps. thanks!

Sounds like the A/C clutch has gone bad, if it is inducing drag when the A/C button is turned off.

Shouldn't hurt a thing to remove the A/C belt.

Once you remove the belt the AC can't "cycle". And no it wont hurt a dang thing!
