I have a 220k Miles Engine.. when i first purchase the car. the oil presure gauge was below the middle sign.

i change the oil with 20w-50 with lucas additive, now my oil pressure is over the half gauge.

is that ok..

According to your user manual it says do not use 20w-50 only 5w-30 or 10w-30 and do not use addittives. I would get that stuff out asap. Thicker liquid will offer more resistance to flow that would increase your pressure reading.

Well. yes. its very think for sure.. i had an idea.. i remove 2 quarts of oil. and add 1 can of Sea-foam. . the car will not be use for long haul everyday.. my wife will be driving it about 5 miles to work and 5 miles back or less ervery day.

i read about sea-foam being added to the oil. it will not harm gasket at all. its an oil base product...

If you only drive about five miles each way I would go with what the manual says and switch to a short-trip maintenance schedule. Additives are not a substitute for lack of maintenance.

I agree with both of your posts.

I'd be changing to the proper oil viscosity ASAP.

I average at 40 to 55 when cold and 35 to 45 when warm with over 220k on the original engine using chevron 5w-30.

My Denali Also has a 222k on the engine..

instead of using 5w-30 i use 20w-50 and added lucas.

my old pressure is 40 on cold and 45 warm.

i spend so much money on the oil including the lucas. i dont know what to really do.. the car runs good. but the oil pressure is a little bit over the middle on the gauges.

i started a thread before and everyone told me to change OIL ASAP. with 5w-30. which i have purchase. but i dont know if i should really change. the engine runs good.

I been checking around google.com and this forum. i have no clue what really is the OIL pressure suppose to

When I first brought my Tahoe to my new(er) mechanic last year, he noticed my oil pressure was a bit high and asked me if the truck had a high performance oil pump. I was running 5W-30 Mobile 1 Full Synthetic at the time.

I switched to 10W-30 Mobile 1 Full Synthetic w/ Lucus oil additives (1 Qt.) and now my oil pressure has leveled out.

It's strange that I had to move toward a higher weight oil to lower my oil pressure, really weird, but it worked, lol.

Keep in mind, my Tahoe only has 91K so that may make a difference. (Shoulder Shrug)
