you'll be fine until you do forced induction, then its only a matter of time.

just FYI... my simple $6K magnacharger turned into roughly $10,000 after I got the supporting mods for it. So, plan ahead... :Handshake:

Wow...10k for magnacharger and supporting mods? What all needs to be done? I'm assuming a tranny build but what needs to happen to the motor?

OP which transmission do you have? I am assuming 4L60E. If so, you will need to beef up the tranny if going FI. Check out Monster transmissions.

FYI, I pretty much have a stock engine (minor mods) and my tranny blew at ~50k... I do not tow or race. IMO the 4L60E is weak.

$2-3K for a transmission, $1K installed 4.10 rear with Tru Trac, $1K for headers and ORY, $400 for PLX AFR and Boost Gauges in overhead pod, plus a newer/larger transmission cooler... then we can get into the mods that were already there, which was the $300 Volant intake and the $700 Corsa exhaust.

Then, to add more, because you'll want that... LS7 TB, DR-X Harness, New plugs, smaller pulleys, blah blah blah.

Easily can exceed $10-12K.

You'd be fine with just a $5500-6000 TVS1900 and some billet servos and a shift kit. That will hold for now, but if you drive like a maniac, you are going to need that transmission completely redone. The billet servos and shift kit will buy you some time before you're transmission takes a dump.

SW CT,
As they said...4L60e is the weakest link, once that is beefed up then turn to the rear diff. with FI it won't be if it will be when you grenade that 10-bolt.

So it sounds like the main things that need to be done when going with FI is tranny build and rear end and the rest is based on personal preference (i.e. the thirst for even more performance and getting the most out of your ride) :) Good info to know. It's not in the near future but I would eventually like to do this to the Burb and will keep this info handy for future use :waytogo:

Well, I don't think the gauges are personal preference. They are crucial when running forced induction. If you go under boost and the engine is running rich or lean, you could cause some serious internal damage to the motor, which ultimately will cost you the entire setup. This was highly recommended when I started my FI quest. And after 4 superchargers (2 of which actually made it onto the truck, lol), I think I learned quite a bit. :D

I don't think anyone has done a GMT-800 to GMT-900 6L80 swap yet (just making that statement based on the bodystyle in your sig)... would be an interesting modification.

We were going to do a 4L60 GMT-900 to 6L80 GMT-900 swap on our Suburban but the costs were ridiculously high, even if we did the labor ourselves. After I had my hands all over this wrecked Escalade and tore out the 6L80 with transfer case, we considered doing it. But, I would have had to either convert the entire 6L80 to 2WD or swap my entire drivetrain over to an AWD setup. After running the numbers I've put into this Suburban to make it look and run like an Escalade, I might as well have just bought the damn Escalade... which has me thinking. :hmm:
